How do I create and publish a web site (Mac user)?
Hello, I want to create a personal website and looking for ideas to help me accomplish this goal. I have been reading Web pages for Dummies since I have no experience working with web publishing. The book is informative but doesn’t seem the best for a Mac user. Eventually, I would like to have the option of selling items on my website. I would like other suggestions of books which would help me build a website from scratch. I’m doing this for a hobby at first and see where it leads. My biggest questions so far are what software should I use to build the site and how do I get it on the internet remembering I want the option of selling items on it. I’m open to a free website and maybe adding a link to another website if I want to start a small business.
Microsoft Office Live Small Business has a free easy to use web designer tool which allows you to create a website without the need to know how to do HTML/CSS coding. Once you have mastered HTML/CSS coding, you can easily upload your site to Office Live via its webfolder, so it has that flexibility as well. While it’s targeted at small businesses, you can use it for sports sites, non-profits, charities, personal sites, fan sites, etc. It’s an all-in-one internet toolkit from a big name (Microsoft), including free email, contact manager, etc. This is a free service and Microsoft is offering a free domain name (i.e. yourdomain.com) for the first year. Should you need to add an online store in the future, there is an add-on in Office Live for a Store Manager for a low monthly fee. If you need help, there is a great support forum to help you out.
