what % income can OTR drivers deduct for meals on fed taxes (Perdiem)?
This is a deduction for cost of meals and supplies when away from home. I am a company driver, and am not self-employed or operating as a small business or corporation of any kind.
Meal deduction is generally 50% of actual expenses. OTR drivers and others subject to federal time-on-duty rules (professional drivers, pilots, train crews, etc.) can generally deduct 75%.
Alternatively you can deduct 75% of the Federal M&IE reimbursement rate for the location that you sleep along the way OR use a flat $59 nationwide. You must use the same method consistently all year.
